The Duties of an HVAC Engineer


An HVAC Engineer is responsible for considering client needs on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning system-related services. In addition, their responsibilities comprise manufacturing, testing, and designing the HVAC system to be fitted appropriately and meet the specification requirements, including HVAC Access Doors and Panels specification, whether it is an old or new building project. Thus, an HVAC engineer plays a significant role in managing, overseeing, and leading the function of the HVAC system in the engineering department. 


They ensure all the system engineering deliverables of the whole unit comply with the project standards, requirements, and any other regulatory requirements that meet the approved specification data. And keep track of the progress on site and mentor all the junior staff in the correct direction to complete the technical tasks on time and accurately.

  1. To contribute to the research and development works by understanding the HVAC system's advances that match the emerging technologies and the consideration of green designs.

  2. Responsible for designing the HVAC system as per the requirements mentioned in the proposal in various stages such as planning and design, fabricating, and testing.

  3. To apply technical knowledge and expertise to support the designing, testing, and manufacturing to have a smooth delivery of the HVAC system in the project.

  4. Accountable for all the layout specifications, components, approaches, and fabrication of the HVAC system specifications.

  5. Ensures that the QC and QA department approves the fittings, HVAC piping, ducts, and other system materials before the installation will start. 

  6. Provide all the tools required for the installation, including scaffolding, hand tools, power tools, and ladder, promptly and exact numbers as stated in the list.

  7. Prepare, and apply to get the approval for the HVAC drawing designs, Mechanical Engineering and Plumbing coordination drawings, project specifications, and work statement methods from the head project engineer.

  8. Monitor the execution and site activities or progress and follow all the rules and regulations during the installation process. Accountable for daily reports to the superiors.

  9. Ensure to follow all the safety protocols as per the safety policy manual set by the company during the installation or maintenance of the HVAC system. And will confirm that the equipment is 100 percent tested and safe to use.

  10. Arrange all the professionals and labor, including duct fitters, pipefitters. They will also do the supervisory work during the installation or maintenance of the equipment.

  11. They are in charge of providing all the required safety PPE's to the workers, including safety gloves, visor shields, and masks during the task.

  12. In charge of the documentation of the inspection and testing process in various tasks, including the duct test, hydro testing of the HVAC piping system, and the inspection of the chilled water piping system of the HVAC chiller system.

  13. Attend regular meetings held by the QC supervisors and project manager about the project updates and compilation.

  14. Assist the commissioning team during the balancing, adjusting of the hydronic fittings and air and system testing.
